Miranda Otto "Eowyn" screen-used Sword from The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. (New Line Cinema, 2001-2003) "Éowyn" (Miranda Otto) was a shield maiden of Rohan; trained in combat from a young age and considered the equal of many men in her skill with a blade. Her signature weapon, a sword measuring 36 in. long featuring a beautiful and ornate hilt and pommel, as befitted her noble birth. Éowyn ultimately succeeded in vanquishing the "Witchking of Angmar", the Ringwraith who could be killed by no man during the climactic "Battle of the Pelennor Fields" in The Return of the King. This lightweight version of Éowyn's sword was designed by Warren Mahy and created by Shaun Bolton and Master Swordsmith, Peter Lyon under the art direction of Sir Richard Taylor at Weta Workshop during the production of The Lord of the Rings trilogy. This iconic prop sword has a lightweight aluminum blade so that actress Miranda Otto could easily and safely wield it during stunt combat while allowing the quality and detailing of the prop to still hold up to the scrutiny of up-close filming that a rubber or resin stunt blade could not. This prop sword also exhibits a number of nicks along the edges of the blade from on-set combat and sword fighting and theatrical Orc blood remnants are also present pitting the blade. This sword was one of eight main character props given away as grand prizes in the "Win the Sword of Aragorn Sweepstakes" cross-promotion between Hasbro Toys and New Line Cinema to promote the release of The Return of the King, in December 2003. Included with the sword is the original museum-quality, lockable acrylic display case and wooden shipping container from the sweepstakes and a New Line Cinema Certificate of Authenticity, confirming the sword's use in filming the trilogy, which is signed and dated by Barrie Osborne, the producer of The Lord of the Rings. In 2012, Profiles in History sold the Legolas' Bow, also one of the eight grand prize props from the "Win the Sword of Aragorn Sweepstakes" for $372,000. Special shipping arrangements will apply.
