Description
MGM Lion light up title plate in framed display. (ca. 1930s-1940s) Vintage original glass title plate. During the 1930s and 1940s, MGM used a unique process to create "glass transparencies", or photographs on glass where credits were superimposed to create "title plates". The images on these title plates would inform the audience of the film's theme and its stars. This particular plate was used at the end of a film, beneath the words "THE END", and can be seen in such classics as A Christmas Carol, Babes in Arms, The Shop Around the Corner and The Philadelphia Story. Visible portion of glass plate measures 11.5 x 8.5 in. in framed presentation including 12-volt power supply which lights the plate, making the piece an impressive display. Frame measures 16 x 13 in. Electronics present and functioning. Near fine condition. Accompanied by an LOA from the original owner who was an MGM lighting technician.Auction Info
