Vincent Price Telegrams from Orson Welles and Photo Included is a fascinating 1937 telegram to Price from Orson Welles and John ("Jack") Houseman -- though they take on the surname "Mercury," after their co-owned Mercury Theatre. The message reads, in part: "We think you are crazy if you don't play Hammon and so do you" (referring to the role of Master Hammon in the Mercury's production of The Shoemakers' Holiday). Price would agree to take on the role a few months later, and would see it through its 69 performances at the Mercury. Also included are two additional, subsequent, and quite personal, telegrams from Welles to Price thanking him, complimenting him, and sending his love. In addition, telegrams from other actors, and members of Welles notorious theatrical group, the Mercury Players, are included in this lot; all from 1938 and sent from the likes of Lillian Gish, Agnes Moorehead and husband Jack Lee, Lynn and Alfred Lunt, and John Houseman. A gorgeous b&w 8" x 10" portrait of young Price is also included. (Notice the barely-visible, yet villainously raised right eyebrow, and his slight smirk!) All are in Very Vine condition with typical yellowing to telegrams and photo due to age, and crease marks on telegrams due to storage.
