Description

US Airforce K-1 Flight Helmet (ca. 1955). Vintage original flight helmet with a red fiberglass outer shell and removable molded plexiglass faceplate. The helmet interior contains an inner hood with leather ear supports and neck skirt. The helmet was heated (electrical components still attached and untested) and used a low-pressure oxygen system (nozzle still attached). This high-altitude pressure helmet was made by International Latex Corporation and is decorated with a Chicago Cubs logo above the visor, various baseball team stickers at the back, and a "thumbs up" drawn in black ink on the top. Exhibits aging, paint chipping and scuffing on plexiglass. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions. From the Collection of Greg Jein.
