The first typed on United States Senate letterhead, sent to JW in Montrose, CO, dated "September 24, 1968," regarding Abe Fortas [a Chief Justice], reading in part " is unfortunate / that the excerpt you sent me was the only information you were / able to get on Mr. Fortas...(it) is part of a scurrilous handout being spread throughout the country by / right-wing and anti-Semitic groups..." signed in black felt-tip ink in the lower right corner "Edward Kennedy;" the second typed on same letterhead, sent to JW in Beverly Hills, CA, dated "October 28, 1977," regarding the Panama Canal treaties, reading in part " would / be against our country's best traditions not only to refuse to act in our national / interest, but to break the word of four Presidents," signed in blue felt-tip ink in the lower right corner "Ted Kennedy;" the third on same-style letterhead (but smaller), sent to JW in Boston, MA, dated "April 17, 1978," reading in part "...I wish you a swift and complete recovery," signed in black felt-tip ink in lower right corner "Ted Kennedy."
