Description
Thomas Gifford. The Wind Chill Factor, First Edition Inscribed and Signed by the Author with Gregory Peck's Handwritten Notations. New York, G.P. Putnam's Sons, (1975). First Edition. 369 page, Octavo. Aquamarine cloth with author's name stamped in gilt on the front board, spine lettered in gilt. No dust jacket. Inscribed and signed by Thomas Gifford on the front free endpaper, "December '74, For Gregory Peck, thanks so much for a fine time in --, Hope you enjoy the book. Regards, Thomas Gifford." Preliminary fifteen leaves bear Peck's handwritten ink notations and marginalia drawing emphasis to early scenes, including: "car, clothes, house, the man himself visually tells us a lot." Gifford's taut thriller dealt with ex-Nazis in corporate and government positions of power after the war. It was expected to get adapted for the screen, and Peck was clearly interested given the marginalia, but ultimately it never happened. Peck eventually played the role of Joseph Mengele several years later in The Boys from Brazil. Front joint split, hinge weak. Book shows handling and reading wear with scuffs, light stains and scuffs from repeated use.Heritage Auctions provides detailed information when available but strongly encourages in-person inspection.
