Sterling Silver Box Given to Lucille Ball from Robert Preston. The 1974 film version of Mame had its problems, but one of its joys was seeing Lucy sharing the screen with Robert Preston, the Tony Award-winning star of both the Broadway and film version of The Music Man. Preston played Beauregard, Mame's dashing but ill-fated husband, and rumor had it that the two stars clashed during Mame's troubled shooting. This sterling silver case appears to refute the rumor, measuring 3.5" x 6" and bearing the inscription "To Lucy Superb Actress Dedicated Artist Dear and Valued Friend My Love Always Bobby" on the lid. Also engraved is the movie's title and the year of its production (1973); the name "Bobby" is engraved in script. The case has two compartments and is in Excellent condition. Preston died in 1987, and Lucy spoke wonderfully about him to the press -- two years before she herself passed away. A charming memento related to two powerhouse performers. This lot will be accompanied by a letter of provenance from Susie Morton as the widow of Gary Morton, Ms. Ball's second husband. The lot is not offered by the estate of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz.
