Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (TCF, 1977) VHS 1982 - CGC 9.2 and Seal A, Drawer Box, Rear White 20th Century Fox Video Watermarks, LRT Seal. The release of Star Wars on VHS in the early 1980s revolutionized the home entertainment industry, setting a precedent for the marketing and distribution of blockbuster films. Its availability on VHS allowed fans to experience the epic space saga from the comfort of their own homes, sparking a new era of movie consumption. The success of Star Wars on VHS paved the way for the widespread adoption of home video players and the emergence of the rental market, fundamentally altering how audiences interacted with cinema. The film's enduring popularity on VHS contributed significantly to its cultural impact and solidified its status as a timeless classic in the realm of home entertainment. This factory sealed 1982 drawer box VHS copy of Star Wars is a true home video holy grail, not just for home media collectors, but Star Wars collectors, as well. This 1982 release was the first time that the 1977 blockbuster film was made available for fans to own. At the point in time that this copy was released only about 4% of American households actually owned a VCR. By 1990 this number was nearly 90%. This statistic illustrates how much less demand there was for home video when this copy was released in 1982. The lack of VCRs meant less rental stores and less copies being produced. The result was significantly less copies of this first retail release being produced than subsequent Star Wars releases. To date, it is believed that there are less than ten factory sealed 1982 drawer box copies still in existence, with only one other gray front window transitional variant currently known. That makes this VHS one of the most limited Star Wars collectibles out there. It has very light 20th Century Fox Video watermarks running horizontally across the rear and has been authenticated by CGC Home Video who have awarded it a grade of 9.2 with a seal grade of A.
