DescriptionSharon Tate Baby and Childhood Photos, Preview Card for Valley of the Dolls, and Jay Sebring Cologne and Promotional Material. Includes two 8" x 10" b&w childhood photographs in Fair to Good condition; a 20th Century-Fox preview card for the notorious camp classic Valley of the Dolls (1967) unmarked and in Excellent condition; a 1.25" x 2" bottle of Sebring Crepe Bandio cologne, and about two-thirds full; two copies of the 3.5" x 6" pamphlet Hair Power by Sebring (one torn) and another 3.5" x 6" pamphlet, Sebring Hair Power; a 2" x 3.5" business card, reading, "Sebring Incorporated, Lt. Col. Paul J. Tate (ret.). The items are in Fine Condition except as noted.
This fascinating, eclectic lot begins with two 8" x 10" b&w photographs: baby Sharon, smiling in a bonnet, and on the verso written in ink "April 43 4 mos. old 1st contest"; also, a shot of Sharon with six kindergarten classmates, all in formal dress with "Lamar Kindergarten" written in ink on verso -- also on the verso is the stamp of Paramount Studio of Houston, Texas. Minor damage in upper left corner of baby portrait; creases and one-inch tear (no paper missing) in kindergarten photo. Fair to Good condition.
Next is a 20th Century-Fox preview card for Valley of the Dolls (1967), the now-notorious "camp" classic starring Sharon as Jennifer North, "art film" star diagnosed with breast cancer who commits suicide. The film was a major release for Fox, which offered preview audiences this postage-paid questionnaire -- "Please rate the Picture Excellent Good or Fair; Rate Cast as Excellent Good Fair..." etc. Preview card (which also asks for the sex and age of the person submitting it) measures 7.5" x 11.5" was never filled out and is in Excellent condition.
Finally, the lot contains several pieces related to Jay Sebring, Sharon's former fiancé. Included is a 1.25" x 2" bottle of Sebring Crepe Bandio cologne, bearing the Sebring male sex symbol marking, the Sebring Inc. name and address, the words "Not for Sale" on the label -- and about 2/3 full. Also in the lot are two copies of the 3.5" x 6" pamphlet Hair Power by Sebring (one torn) and another 3.5" x 6" pamphlet, Sebring Hair Power, by Jim Markham ("President, Sebring International"). Also enclosed is a 2" x 3.5" business card, reading, "Sebring Incorporated, Lt. Col. Paul J. Tate (ret.), General Manager, Military Division, 725 N. Fairfax Ave/Los Angeles, Calif. 90046/(213) 653-4080." Interesting to note that Sharon's father was a major mover and shaker in the Sebring business. Card has staining in upper left area; otherwise Good condition. All in all, a marvelous lot that touches on Sharon's childhood, her personal life, and her stardom.
