Photos of a Very Young Stan Laurel and Charlie Chaplin in Edgar Hurley's Scrapbook. This vintage scrapbook is a remarkable piece of show business history, dating back to 1913, when Stan Laurel and Charlie Chaplin were touring the United States with the Fred Karno troupe, starring Edgar Hurley. Hurley himself maintained this scrapbook, which includes ten photos of the 23-year-old Laurel and three of the 24-year-old Chaplin, the latter in his "Little Tramp" makeup and costume. (For a time Laurel served as Chaplin's understudy.) The snapshots show the troupe at their leisure as they play everywhere from Billings to Salt Lake City to Los Angeles -- including a snapshot of Stan cooling off in a lake. The scrapbook also features marvelous vintage photos of Wild West attractions, elephants, 1913-era cars -- a virtual time machine back to the days and nights of barnstorming troupes of the early 20th century. A one-of-a-kind artifact from the formative years of Chaplin and Laurel, in Very Good condition.
