Personal book-bound script for Mackenna's Gold (Columbia, 1969). Vintage original 141-page script dated February 9, 1967 and with yellow revision pages dated to April 7, 1967. Screenplay by Carl Foreman, adapted from the novel by Will Henry (pen name of Heck Allen). The present script was custom-bound for Mr. Peck's personal library in dark green leatherette with title and Mr. Peck's name stamped in gilt on the front board. Spine stamped in gilt with five raised bands. With 24 gelatin silver glossy 7.25" x 10" production stills from the film tipped to pages bound-in. Some faint creases to the leatherette binding and gentle rubbing to the board corners. Boards slight bowed. Two words crossed out in black ink on page 116, presumably by Mr. Peck. Fine.

The film was not well received critically and was considered a box office failure in North America. Mr. Peck did not personally like the film but it went on to become hugely popular in the Soviet Union, Central Asia, and India, where it remained the top-grossing Hollywood film until the blockbusters Jurassic Park (1993) and Titanic (1997) a generation later.

Please note that while not a studio presentation script, the present script was custom bound for Mr. Peck's personal library and features his name stamped in gilt on the front board.
