Description

Personal book-bound script for The Snows of Kilimanjaro (20th Century-Fox, 1952). Vintage original 131-page third revised shooting script dated January 17, 1952 and with blue revision pages dated to April 24, 1952. Screenplay by Casey Robinson, adapted from the short story of Ernest Hemingway. The present script was custom-bound for Mr. Peck's personal library in full tan calf with title and Mr. Peck's name stamped in gilt on the front board. Spine stamped in gilt with five raised bands. Marbled endpapers. With 15 gelatin silver matte double-weight 7" x 9.25" production stills from the film tipped to pages bound-in. Spine somewhat sun darkened and some sun fading along the upper edge of the front board. Corners rubbed, with some light scuffs to the boards. Small impression to the center right edge of the front board. Boards show light scuffs with area of darkening to the upper rear board. Fine.

The screenplay was adapted from Ernest Hemingway's short story, which he considered to be one of his best. Thanks to a star-studded cast, the film was both a critical and commercial success for the studio and went on to be the top-grossing movie of 1952. It was shot on location in Nairobi, Cairo, and the French Riviera. The cinematography and set design were particularly praised and the film received two Oscar nominations for Best Cinematography, Color and Best Art Direction, Color.

Please note that while not a studio presentation script, the present script was custom bound for Mr. Peck's personal library and features his name stamped in gilt on the front board.
