Forrest J Ackerman-related collection of (25) books and magazines including Cinema 57, the French publication that inspired Famous Monsters of Filmland magazine (1957-2008). Vintage original collection of (25) Forrest J Ackerman-edited or related magazines and books including (1) copy of the French 1-off pocket magazine that became the Inciting incident for modern monster magazine fandom. In 1957, Forest J Ackerman returned from a trip to France. Stopping in NYC, he met with publisher James Warren. Forry shared the French monster mag with Warren who got excited at the thought of cloning his own 1-off by collecting all the stills and translating the text to English. Not long back in Los Angeles, Forry received a call from James who'd discovered that all the stills in the French mag belonged to countless collectors and that translation would be a chore. Forry chimed in, "I have all of those stills in my own collection and I could easily write the magazine." Only weeks later, the two sat across a table in LA, Forry's fingers flying over his keyboard while Jim Warren held up a sign reading, "I am a 14-year old boy and I am your reader. Forry Ackerman, make me laugh!" The rest is history. This lot also includes (11) issues of Forrest J Ackerman's Monsterland magazine with 2-issue 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 2-7, complete set of (2) Forrest J Ackerman's Monsterama, (3) Forrest J Ackerman's Wonderama, (1) Forrest J Ackerman's Monsters & Imagi-Movies, (1) Famous Forry Fotos, (2) Rue Morgue Forrest J Ackerman cover art issues, (1) Forrest J Ackerman's Horror & Sci-Fi Collection Museum books by Hajime Ishida, (2) It's Alive @ 85 Forry Birthday programs (Limited editions: 5 of 250 / 76 of 250) w/Forry-signed 1st Annual 4E Awards certificate presented to Kevin Burns.
