Description

Mark Hellinger Scripts for Florenz Ziegfeld and Al Jolson, with Signature and Scrapbook Pages. The fascinating lot includes two copies of Mark Hellinger's sketch "Victim of the Talkies," which was performed in Broadway's The Ziegfeld Follies of 1931, both copies signed in ink by Hellinger; a copy of Hellinger's musical comedy script Here's T'Mollie, which later became the book for the 1932 Ziegfeld show Hot-Cha!, starring Bert Lahr and Lupe Velez; two scripts based on Al Jolson - Mammy's Boy, The Life of Al Jolson, credited to Hellinger and Arthur Strawn ("In Collaboration with Al Jolson"), and Jolson Story, "Screenplay by Erwin Gelsey, Fifth Draft, November 25, 1944." (When The Jolson Story was released in 1946, neither Gelsey nor Hellinger received writer credit.); and eight of Hellinger's eight scrapbook pages, one with an 8" x 10" still of Hellinger with Al Jolson, and most of the pages covering the show Hot-Cha! One of the Here's T'Mollie scripts is marked in pencil "Property of Flo Ziegfeld," and the Jolson Story script is marked in ink "Mr. Jolson." Very Good condition. From the Mark Hellinger Archive.
