Mark Hellinger's High Sierra Script and Production Archive and Nobody Lives Forever Script. High Sierra ranks as a Warner Bros. "red meat" classic on a variety of levels -- a powerhouse performance by Humphrey Bogart as Mad Dog Earle, a gritty leading lady turn by Ida Lupino, slick direction by Raoul Walsh, a gripping "sociopathic gangster" screenplay by W.R. Burnett (of Little Caesar fame) and John Huston, and a knockout production supervised by producer Mark Hellinger. This lot features Hellinger's red, 8.5" x 11" leatherbound 138-page script for High Sierra -- the volume also containing reviews and a wealth of production data, including the budget sheets, daily call sheets, location shoot information, pages of annotated censorship concerns from Joseph Breen, even the addresses and phone numbers of the stars. Included are nine original studio stills from High Sierra with snipes and studio stamps on the reverse. This lot also features Hellinger's annotated script for Nobody Lives Forever (then titled I Wasn't Born Yesterday), which was scripted by W. R. Burnett, released in 1946 and starred John Garfield. (Although the script lists Hellinger as producer, Robert Buckner eventually received the credit.) Hellinger has written his last name in pencil on the Nobody Lives Forever script cover. Some of the stills from High Sierra are cut and a bit tattered -- altogether Very Good condition. Fascinating material from a dynamic Warner Bros. prime mover. From the Mark Hellinger Archive. Accompanied by James Spence Authentication auction LOA.
