Marilyn Monroe Personal Telephone Book. ...
Description
Marilyn Monroe Personal Telephone Book. Vintage original Royal Vernon telephone book belonging to Marilyn Monroe, ca. 1960-1962. Composed of black leatherette cloth boards with three rings, containing over 200 pages of entries in tabbed alphabetical sections, the majority typed with occasional secretarial handwritten additions and annotations in pen and pencil. Putting the actress's A-list rolodex on display, the address book contains entries for George Cukor, Montgomery Clift, Joe DiMaggio, John Huston, Gene Kelly, Jack Lemmon, Arthur Miller, Frank Sinatra, Carl Sandburg, and Sam Shaw. Confidants close to Marilyn include Norman, Hedda, and Patricia Rosten, Lee and Paula Strasberg, Eunice Murray, and Dr. Ralph Greenson, as well as additional members of Arthur Miller's family, including Mr. and Mrs. Isadore Miller, Kermit Miller, Morton Miller, and his children Jane and Robert Miller. Additional pages are dotted with numbers for studio executives from 20th Century Fox and United Artists, fashion houses, luxury hotels, doctors, and a wide range of individuals and businesses that made up the actress's refined network of contacts. The presence of Dr. Greenson's contact information indicates this address book dates to no earlier than 1960, when he began treating her. As the Rostens developed a closer friendship with Marilyn, Hedda increasingly took on secretarial and assistant duties for the actress, including helping manage her date and contact books. It is likely Hedda prepared this telephone book for Marilyn and that the additional secretarial notes are her own. Book measures 6.5" x 9" x 1.5" and exhibits signs of age and wear, including scuffing to the exterior board along the spine, bumped corners, occasional minor paper tears, with additional foxing, toning, and rubbing to the interior pages throughout. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions. From the Estate of Norman and Hedda Rosten.Heritage Auctions provides detailed information when available but strongly encourages in-person inspection.
