Lucille Ball Silver Box, Engraved "To Our Dream Girl," 1947. In 1947, Lucille Ball toured for 22 weeks in the show Dream Girl. The comedy had opened on Broadway on December 14, 1945, starring Betty Field and written and directed by Elmer Rice (then married to Ms. Field). Lucy took the starring role of Georgina Allerton in this touring company, her first excursion into "legitimate" theater and 13 years before her one and only Broadway show, Wildcat. This sterling silver cigarette case was a gift to Lucy from the Dream Girl company and is engraved on the front: "With Grateful appreciation TO OUR 'DREAM GIRL' December 1947." The lid has the engraved signatures of the company, 17 in all, including actors Scott McKay, Guy Standing, and Andy Duggan. The case measures 3.5" x 5.5" and is 2" tall. The inside of the lid is now tarnished; otherwise, it is in Excellent condition. A handsome and unique artifact from an often-forgotten avenue of Lucy's career. This lot will be accompanied by a letter of provenance from Susie Morton as the widow of Gary Morton, Ms. Ball's second husband. The lot is not offered by the estate of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz.
