Description

Jilly Rizzo's Personal Bound Copy of Contract on Cherry Street Script. Prior to his mother's death in 1977, Frank Sinatra had vowed never to act in television films. Accepting a role as an anti-Mob detective in Edward Anhalt's adaptation of Philip Rosenberg's novel Contract on Cherry Street -- which had been his mama's favorite book -- he hired top craftsmen such as director William Graham and composer Jerry Goldsmith. During production, New York was hit by a 24-hour blackout on July 13-14, 1977. Though Frank and right-hand man Jilly Rizzo were staying on the 38th floor of the Waldorf Towers, they walked down the stairs to street level, and then climbed up eight flights to the NBC studios to rehearse. Frank surrounded himself with a fine supporting cast, including Martin Balsam, Verna Bloom, Martin Gabel, Harry Guardino, Henry Silva, and Jilly, who played Louis Silvera, a bodyguard for the Manzaro crime family. This unique presentation copy of the Contract on Cherry Street final draft script, dated June 9, 1977, 150 pages, was bound for Jilly Rizzo by Frank Sinatra and the California Bookbinding Co. on Selma Avenue in Hollywood. The script, beautifully bound in burgundy material, with the title and the name "Jilly Rizzo" embossed in gold lettering on the front cover and spine, and housed in a matching slipcase, was in the possession of Rizzo until his death in 1992. In Very Fine to Excellent condition with minor wear on the slipcase. From the Jilly Rizzo Estate Archive. Accompanied by a letter of provenance from William Rizzo.
