Along with his new companions, Willie Scott (Kate Capshaw) and Short Round (Jonathan Ke Quan), Indy must navigate dangerous traps and treacherous villains to save the children and stop the cult's plans. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom serves as a prequel to the first film, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and provides more insight into Indiana's character and backstory. It also features some of the most memorable action sequences of the series, including the iconic mine cart chase scene. Additionally, the film's darker tone and portrayal of non-Western cultures stirred controversy and led to the creation of the PG-13 rating.
