Description
Hellboy (Columbia, 2004), Ron Perlman "Hellboy" Group of (3) Facial Appliances Assembled for Display by Tom Spina Designs. Original group of (3) foam latex facial appliances made from a lifecast of Ron Perlman's (Hellboy) face and chest, including (1) foam latex "cap" piece for fitting on top of the actor's head, with pointed ears and originally with 1-hole for a horn piece (now filled with a resin horn) and 1- foam horn piece attached, (1) mask portion, blended over a lifecast of Perlman's face and restored by Spina's team with museum-grade acrylic eyes and a closed mouth, and (1) contoured and textured chest piece with muscular torso and zipper on the back bib. Includes (1) custom wooden stand with foam display for the completed piece and measures 23" x 17" x 14" with stand. According to Tom Spina's design team, the original owner asked to combine these three individual pieces from the movie into one seamless, beautiful design. After much consultation and consideration, the lead artist filled out the face using a modified death mask that Perlman wore from another film, and used additional detailing to flesh out the design, similar to the blending process used in the movie makeup chair while the actor sat for application. The team then crafted matching eyes, horns based on the film design, and teeth, while blending all the elements together. Finally, they added a full lace wig and glued facial hair, with the finishing touches completed by Spina himself. Exhibits minor flaking, hardening and cracking of foam around the edges of the chest and shoulder region, and the paint has darkened over time.
