    Description

Grace George Brady 1916 Replica Sterling Silver Coronation Spoon. This 10-inch sterling silver spoon, made in 1916 by Wakely and Wheeler of London, England, is a replica of the original 12th-Century Anointing Spoon, the only remaining piece of the Royal Regalia preserved among the British Crown Jewels at the Tower of London. The original spoon is believed to have been used at the coronation of King John in 1199. Replicas have been produced since 1874. This 1916 replica, housed in a Tiffany of New York case, and measuring 11.5" x 4" x 1", was owned by Grace George, prominent actress and wife of theatrical impresario William Brady, Sr. The initials "G.G.B." are embossed in gilt on the lid. The spoon is in Excellent condition with minor tarnish; the case is Very Good, with some wear, scratches, and chipping on the right end and bottom. From the William and Alice Brady Estate Archive.
