    Description

Glenn Ford's 1972 Presidential Campaign Memorabilia. A Democrat during the first half of his life, Glenn Ford -- like friend and fellow actor Ronald Reagan -- switched to the Republican Party. Ford campaigned actively for Richard Nixon and for Reagan during their respective presidential campaigns; in 1972 he was selected as a special guest speaker at the Republican National Convention held in Miami Beach. At the time, he was also serving in active service in Vietnam as part of the U.S. Naval Reserve. Included are five color 8" x 10" photos from the convention, four of them featuring Ford behind the podium with then-Vice President Gerald Ford in the background, and a 12-page partial transcript from Ford's session, annotated with pronunciation cues and other edits in his hand. The photos are in Very Fine to Excellent condition, four of them matted to an overall size of 13.5" x 12". Also included here is a matted and framed color 5" x 6" photo of Richard Nixon with a printed inscription to Ford and signature from Nixon in black ink on the matting, overall size of 12" x 15", and a pinback campaign button and bumper sticker bearing the slogan "President Nixon. Now more than ever." There is some soiling and mild wear to the sticker; otherwise the items are in Excellent condition. From the Glenn Ford Estate. Accompanied by a COA from PSA/DNA (Nixon photo) and a letter of provenance from Peter Ford.
