Description

Extremely Rare, Limited Edition Charlie Chaplin Commemorative Medallion and Stand by Fred "Fritz" Kormis (1975). Original (2) piece commemorative set including (1) extremely rare, limited-edition bronze medallion, and (1) bronze and wooden display stand. The medallion features the raised likeness of an older Chaplin (without mustache) encircled by raised letters spelling "Sir Charles Chaplin" at the top, with "KORMIS" at right and "1975" engraved at the bottom. The reverse side presents a raised depiction of the Tramp from behind, as seen in the final scene of Modern Times, along with engraved titles of Chaplin's acclaimed films: The Kid, City Lights, The [Great] Dictator, The Gold Rush, Modern Times, and Limelight, plus the artist's signature and the edition number 7/8. Crafted by renowned sculptor Fred "Fritz" Kormis, recognized for his lifelike bronzes of historical figures. Charlie Chaplin was one of the 20th century's most famous multihyphenate performers, working both in front of and behind the camera. He rose to success with the creation of the lovable Tramp character, whose signature mustache, cane, and oversized shoes made him one of the most celebrated and successful figures in Hollywood. Although he never won a competitive Academy Award for his filmmaking, he received an Honorary Oscar in 1972 for his significant and ongoing contributions to cinema. The medallion measures 5.5" x 0.75", with the accompanying brass and wood stand measuring 5.5" x 5.5". Items exhibit minor aging and surface wear. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.
