    Description

Edwina Booth Document Archive. A collection of 110 letters, legal documents, photos and other items related to Booth. A rising young star during the advent of sound, her career was cut short when she contracted a debilitating case of malaria during the filming of Trader Horn (1931) in Africa. It took her six years to recover, and Booth successfully sued MGM for more than $1 million, claiming she had been provided with inadequate protection and inadequate clothing during the African shoot. The case received a lot of attention in the tabloids and was eventually settled out of court for an undisclosed amount; though some records indicate she settled for $35,000. Copies of documents related to the settlement are included here. The items are in overall Fine to Very Fine condition.
