Boris Karloff's Personal Scrapbook for The Lark. The Lark, in which Boris Karloff played the Bishop Cauchon to Julie Harris's Joan of Arc, was a Broadway hit of 1955/1956 and the pinnacle of Karloff's success as a legitimate actor. This is the star's personal scrapbook in brown leather binding, measuring 12" x 12.5," with 35 pages of clippings including reviews from the major New York papers, advertisements, interviews, photos, and signed letters to Karloff from Julie Harris and the play's author, Lillian Hellman (respectively signed "Julie" and "Lillian"). The scrapbook's cover is a color Time magazine cover sketch, November 28, 1955, showing Julie Harris as Joan. Karloff kept very few scrapbooks -- this one, devoted to the performance of which he was probably proudest, was a prized keepsake and survives as a wonderful memento from a legendary career. From the Boris Karloff Estate Collection. Accompanied a Letter of Provenance from Sara Karloff Sparkman.
