Fourteen total, from the personal belongings of Hazel Bernstein [wife of Dr. Maurice 'Dadda' Bernstein, Welles' childhood guardian] who gave them to Welles right before she died; including ones from: 1) Detroit, engraved "Lila / 1882," sterling; 2) Victoria B.C., sterling and enamel; 3) Firenze [Florence]; 4) Pisa (showing the Leaning Tower); 5) Gibraltar, metal and enamel; 6) England, metal and enamel; 7) Stockholm, engraved "Flora," sterling; 8) Jerusalem (showing the Mosque of Omar), metal and enamel; 9) Europe (showing a saint); 10) Egypt (showing an Egyptian mythological figure); 11) Italy (showing a saint); 12) the Southwest of the USA, likely sterling; 13) Europe (showing an axe); and 14) the Middle East, metal and enamel; also included is a small fish knife and fork set and a sterling silver nut pick: further included with a letter from Beatrice Welles indicating she consigned this lot directly to Heritage Auctions.
