Description

An Orson Welles Collection of Magic Tricks and Notes, 1950s-1980s. A comprehensive group of items related to Welles' lifelong passion including: three large files filled with typed notes on magic tricks, numerous envelopes filled with bits and pieces that Welles labeled in felt-tip ink in his own hand (e.g. "Coins / Directions / Jarrow / Red Tissue Paper / Flash Paper / Thumb Tips / Wine Covers," etc.), scissors, plastic thumbs, a salt shaker, matches, decks of playing cards, champagne flutes, coins, and rubber bands, among other mysterious miscellanea related to the art of magic; included with a letter from Beatrice Welles indicating she consigned this lot directly to Heritage Auctions.
    Various Sizes

According to Beatrice Welles, her father used many of the pieces in this lot when he went on late night talk shows such as "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson" and "The Merv Griffith Show" among many others.
