Covers removed, screen play by Charles Portis, dated "July 26, 1968," marked "Second Draft Screenplay," 145 pages (with pages 22 and 23 ripped out), every single page folded in half (or folded in half again) by Wayne as was his habit with scripts he used on set, numerous annotations by Wayne in pencil or black felt-tip pen throughout, mainly revisions to his dialogue such as: verso of page 47 "There might be something / you say, Baby Sister, but I / don't propose to live near / people;" page 52 "Would you mind repeatin' that, jaybird;" verso of page 55 "Can't you let / nobody reason with / out buttin in;" and, most interestingly, on the verso of the very last page "Fill yore hand / and meet your / maker / He ya!!! Bo." The scripted line is the famous one Wayne actually delivers ["Fill your hand, you son of a bitch"], though it appears that he was thinking about changing it. (Please note all pages are frayed and wrinkled.)
