DescriptionA Marilyn Monroe-Related First Issue of Playboy Magazine, 1953. Hugh Hefner sure knew how to launch a magazine! Marilyn Monroe on the cover and a nude pose inside! It was far from a sure thing in 1953; that is, whether Hef's "Entertainment for Men" concept could become a viable magazine, much less anything close to the worldwide phenomenon that Playboy did become. And it didn't stop there - the success of the magazine led to associated spin-off publications, night clubs, and forays into television, movies, and recordings.
Offered here is a nice copy of the first issue of Playboy, the value of which has increased considerably in recent years as collectors' appreciation of the significance of the issue has grown. It's now nearly 60 years old, and copies as nice as this are in extremely high demand. The dominant white of the striking black and white cover design shows even minor smudges, stains, and wear. This copy does show some "rub" marks; transfer of color over the years, most likely from other magazines that rubbed against it in storage, but structurally, the book is about FN/VF 7.0, with exceptional page quality and a tight spine. With the smudges, the overall grade is still about FN+ 6.5.
