Description
A Marilyn Monroe Early Signed Contract for Twentieth Century Fox, 1950. A 16-page standard boilerplate "one-year" contract between the upcoming star and the studio that would end up employing her for life; dated "2nd day of May, 1950;" multiple paragraphs outline the terms of her employment such as "...the producer shall pay to the artist, as his entire compensation hereunder, the sum of five hundred dollars ($500.00) per week..." and by "May 11, 1956 $3,500.00 per week;" two extra pages titled "Synopsis of Employment Contract" dated thirteen days later on "5/15/50" note some "Special Provisions," reading in part "Artist at her own expense, will have such dental work done as producer deems necessary, said work to be done within 60 days after producer requests..." and "Artist shall furnish all shoes, hosiery, and under-clothing and any other suitable wearing apparel she may possess; producer shall furnish all costumes;" signed on the last page in black fountain pen ink "Marilyn Monroe" in a clear, concise hand, before her signature got 'loopy' as it later did. (Please note there is water damage on the right margin of the signed page, but it does not affect MM's signature.)11" x 8"
The "Special Provisions" are interesting to read as it appears that MM needed to have her teeth fixed in May 1950 (though she likely had other dental work done earlier), possibly before shooting "All About Eve" -- and she also had to wear her own shoes onscreen!
