Typed on personalized stationery, dated "Dec. 8, 1936," written to "Mrs. Kurtz" [wife of historian and consultant to "Gone with the Wind," Wilbur G. Kurtz, Sr.], a short note where Mitchell writes how she is trying to influence producer David O. Selznick to hire Kurtz: "...I have implanted a seed about Mr. Kurtz being the only / authority in the section on historical matters and I hope it will / bear fruit.../I told one of the / Selznick people that they couldn't possibly produce the picture / unless they had him in California;" signed in black fountain pen ink in the lower right corner "Peggy Mitchell Marsh," included with the original transmittal envelope addressed to "Mrs. Wilbur Kurtz.../Atlanta, GA."

This lot was consigned by descendants of Wilbur G. Kurtz, Sr., the noted Atlanta Civil War historian and artist who was hired by David O. Selznick to be the Historical Consultant for the 1939 production of "Gone with the Wind." Kurtz was hired at the urging of Margaret Mitchell and his name appears in the opening credits of the film. Kurtz was also instrumental in helping Mitchell on matters of historical accuracy while she was writing her novel.
