Typed on personalized stationery, dated "April 20, 1938," written to "Annie Laurie" [Kurtz, wife of historian and consultant to "Gone with the Wind," Wilbur G. Kurtz, Sr.], a short note where Mitchell regrets that she can't attend a event hosted by "the Ladies' Memorial Association," signed in black fountain pen ink in the lower right corner "Peggy," with the original transmittal envelope addressed to "Mrs. Wilbur G. Kurtz.../Atlanta, Georgia."

    PROVENANCE:
This lot was consigned by descendants of Wilbur G. Kurtz, Sr., the noted Atlanta Civil War historian and artist who was hired by David O. Selznick to be the Historical Consultant for the 1939 production of "Gone with the Wind." Kurtz was hired at the urging of Margaret Mitchell and his name appears in the opening credits of the film. Kurtz was also instrumental in helping Mitchell on matters of historical accuracy while she was writing her novel.
