A Mae West Group of Scrapbooks, 1920s-1970s. Three total; filled with countless documents glued to the interior pages such as newspaper clippings, magazine clippings, handwritten letters from personal friends and fans, postcards, playbills, photographs, business cards, and the like; mostly dating from the 1920s when West was on Broadway in NYC with a large portion of clippings related to her scandalous 1926 play, "Sex" which made her a worldwide household name; clippings and other paperwork continue on to the 1970s, though most of the later-dated pieces are not glued into the scrapbook pages; so many of these articles contain historical information that is simply not available anywhere else -- a truly fascinating account of this provocateur who paved the way for later blonde bombshells such as Jean Harlow, Marilyn Monroe, Madonna, and Lady Gaga; included with a signed 'Letter of Provenance' from John West, Mae's nephew. (Please note the scrapbook pages are brittle due to age, but the contents are still intact.)
