    Description

    A John Wayne Ceramic Chess Set, 1979. With a blue and white handpainted board, red and blue matching pieces, bottom of board reads "Atlantic Mold / To Duke / Love Joyce '79;" Wayne was an avid chess player, almost always playing on his film sets between takes. (Please note three pieces have been repaired.)
    16" x 16" x 1 1/2"

    PROVENANCE:
    This set was originally sold in the Heritage Auctions (Los Angeles) auction titled "The Personal Properly of John Wayne," Sale 7045, October 6-7, 2011, Lot 44531, final price realized was $1,553.50; included is the original COA from Ethan Wayne, John Wayne's youngest son.
