This basket was originally sold in the Plaza Art Galleries (New York) auction titled in part "The Estate of Joan Crawford," Sale 6193, February 16, 1878, Lot 1, final price realized was $170; included is the original catalogue, a separate estimate sheet, and a 'letter of provenance' from the auction house about this particular lot. Consigned by the original bidder who won this piece back in 1978, he relays the story that Andy Warhol was also in attendance at this sale so he asked the artist to sign his catalogue which Warhol did (in pencil) on page 3.
