A Greta Garbo Personally Owned Make-Up Case, Circa 1950s. Made of brown polished calf, with a handle and two English lever locks on top, stamped "Made in England" along the interior, monogrammed "G.G." along the top, lower side interior composed of a removable shelf with three compartments containing items such as: a tube of Max Factor's 'Satin Smooth' make-up, a Martha Lorraine lip brush with a Ceil Chapman logo (residual red stain present), unused emery boards, a mechanical pencil, a leather Mark Cross case, two metal nail files, smudge sticks, miscellaneous buttons, brow brushes, and a pocket-sized Chase National Bank checkbook (unused except for one missing check, with no notations on stub); also stashed in case is paperwork and other like items including: Garbo's dressmaker's handwritten notations relating to the star's measurements (one of her shoulders was higher than the other), thirteen 1930s-era candid black and white snapshots of Garbo with friends (with later negatives of the images and corresponding prints), magazine clippings about the star, an envelope addressed to Garbo from 1935, and a partial piece of packaging addressed to Garbo using her hide-out name, "H. Brown" [Harriet Brown] from 1944. (Please note the compartment cover is unattached and the interior mirror has come unglued but both pieces are still housed inside case.)
