Description

A Collection of Speeches, 1970s. Including: 1) a speech seeming to be from when Wayne was honored by the National Football Foundation in 1973; twelve pages, handwritten in black felt-tip ink by Wayne on a mint green notepad [printed "from the desk of Louis Jordan"], heartfelt, inspirational, and very long about the importance of ball-playing, coaching, and being a good American; 2) a speech from the Golden Apple Awards ceremony that took place on January 19, 1976, two pages, typed with Wayne's handwritten corrections in black fountain pen ink, reading in part "...you honor / me by even considering me with such talents as Dick Van Dyke / and Sir Laurence Olivier. I have been doing whatever it is I do for / over a half a century so this snarled and worry-worn mug is not exactly what you would call a / new face;" 3) a speech from the Lucille Ball Friars Club Roast on November 4, 1977, typed on three half-sheets of paper [cheat sheets for the podium], reading in part "Keep holding your torch on / high, Lucy -- there are a lot of us grateful people who love you / for what you've brought into our lives;" also included are two small notepad pages [from L'ermitage Hotel in Beverly Hills] penned by Wayne in black felt-tip ink reading in part "So Lucy in the interest / of keeping this an early / evening, I'll wind it up / now. I'm just going to / have a few dozen more / belts of tequila & then / get in my tank & drive home" plus some other-related paperwork from same event; and 4) a speech from the Golden Apple Award Luncheon on December 11, 1977, typed on a single sheet of paper, relating to Jane Fonda who Wayne was presenting at that function. The movie quite literally changed my life. I have included a pic of me in Sly's Rocky 3 Cashmere overcoat, would much appreciate if it is possible for you to forward this email to Sly to let him know the overcoat is in good hands, and will be well taken care of, (as will be the Rambo knife forging tools, the other lot I won!) Wish you very happy holidays and a great 2016!
