Description

A Liberace Owned and Played Baldwin Model R Grand Piano, 1980s One of the twelve pianos sold at the sale of Liberace's estate in 1988, this beautiful instrument is being consigned by the original purchaser from that auction. To our knowledge, none of Liberace's pianos have subsequently been offered for sale at auction, making this a rare opportunity to own one of the entertainer's most prized possessions.

This lovely piano graced Liberace's Malibu beach home where it was positioned in the living room for entertaining his guests, or for simply enjoying a magnificent ocean view while playing. The piano has a stunning black lacquer finish, giving it a contemporary look that will complement any setting. A true grand piano, it measures 57" wide x 67" long. Height is 39" with the top closed, and 66" with the top fully extended. The matching black lacquer bench measures 35" wide x 14.5" deep, and is 18" high. Manufactured by the Baldwin Piano Company, with serial number R259739. At the time of purchase, the current owner received a signature on the piano's interior from Dora Liberace, the executor of the entertainer's estate and widow of Liberace's famed brother George.

The piano is in Very Good overall condition, and has been regularly played, tuned, and professionally serviced. All parts are original. There are slight surface scratches and nicks to the finish common to a piano of this age, but it remains a beautiful and magnificent instrument which will bring many years of enjoyment to its next owner.

    PROVENANCE:
This piano was originally sold in the Butterfield & Butterfield/Christie's Los Angeles auction titled "The Liberace Collection," Sale 4000X, April 9-12, 1988, Lot 325.
