    Description

    Howard Hughes "mystery crate" possibly containing a sealed projector. (ca. 1940s-1950s) Vintage original wooden shipping crate measuring approx. 28 x 20 x 46 in. Wooden slatted crate containing a green metallic case. Exterior crate is stenciled, "For Devry 35 MM Motion Picture Projector", "To Supply Officer Naval Supply Depot", "For Stock Buships Storage No. 6650663" and other info. Estimated weight approx. 100 lbs. Crate unopened, but with loose slats revealing the interior metal case, which also remains unopened. In vintage very good to fine condition. This crate was present at the Howard Hughes Headquarters located at 7000 Romaine St. in Los Angeles at the time of Hughes' death and was sold with the property. It has remained with the owner of the building since.
