(Walt Disney, 1940) Superb original concept painting by Gustaf Tenggren featuring Pinocchio searching the murky depths for Monster the whale. This stunning work represents Tenggren's hallmark style which was inspired by the Swedish folk illustrators steeped in fantasy. His paintings were instrumental in setting the visual style for Pinocchio. Accomplished in ink, gouache and watercolor on 10 ¾ in. x 14 ¼ 2-ply illustration paper tipped to board. Signed "Tenggren" at the lower right. A darkly dramatic work from this celebrated artist.
