Groucho Marx's (1) Holiday Card from Charlie Chaplin Including (2) Marx Family Photos (ca. 1930s) Vintage original greeting card sent by Charles Chaplin to Groucho Marx. Printed on white card stock, embossed with silver lettering reading, "Season's Greetings Charles Chaplin" and measuring 4.5" x 6". Groucho Marx, arguably the greatest speaking film comedian of the 20th Century and Charlie Chaplin, the greatest silent film star, became friends in their early twenties when they first met on the road in Manitoba, Canada and maintained their friendship until their passings in 1977. In 1930's Hollywood, Charlie and Groucho would dine at each other's homes and famously competed in a tennis match with tennis pros Fred Perry and Ellsworth Vines in 1937. When Chaplin returned to the US in 1972 after years of exile, the octogenarians reunited. Chaplin was Groucho's favorite comedian and Chaplin returned the nod, "I wish I could speak on the screen like you." This lot also includes (2) original photographs (8" x 10" and 5" x 7") of the Marx family (Groucho, wife Ruth, son Arthur and daughter Miriam) taken during the
late 1930's when the greeting card was sent. COA from Heritage Auctions. From the Personal Collection of Groucho Marx.
