Glenn Ford's Couch with Marilyn Monroe's Favorite Painting. This plush, eight-foot couch with tartan design and matching footrests was custom-made for Glenn Ford for the personal bar in his house. It provided a place to sit for the numerous celebrity guests who attended Ford's private parties, some of whom would sleep on it after the evening's festivities. The couch is accompanied by a haunting painting of a little girl that Ford had given Marilyn Monroe, one she considered to be her favorite. On the reverse of the painting Ford has provided a detailed handwritten account of his time with Marilyn, including a romantic encounter on the aforementioned couch. He writes in part: "This was Marilyn Monroe's favorite painting - after she had been through the house... Her psychiatrist Dr. Ralph Greenson had made her cry - she said 'Glenn take me home.' We got in my car and I did not know where she lived. She said 'No Glenn, your home' - where she stayed all night in the bar on the plaid sofa. She said "Just hold me' and a I did - and more. I still have this because she forgot it." Ford also adds: "I think Marilyn wanted to die. When we made love she whispered 'I wish I could die right now, while I'm happy.' " Fascinating items with a unique history, the couch is in Very Fine to Excellent condition with many small holes across the back; the painting framed to an overall 17.5" x 19.5" and in Excellent condition. From the Glenn Ford Estate. Accompanied by a letter of provenance from Peter Ford.
