Game of Thrones Bran Stark and Dire Wolf Preliminary Concept Painting by William Simpson (HBO, 2011). "One of the original ideas was that Bran would ride on his Dire Wolf." This caption is taken from the artist's notes on back of this remarkable concept painting by Game of Thrones storyboard artist, William Simpson. Mr. Simpson got his start illustrating for comics such as Batman, Judge Dredd and Indiana Jones, moving on to live-action films, and ultimately became a storyboard and concept artist for the hit HBO series Game of Thrones. This epic cable series based on George R. R. Martin's fantasy book series A Song of Ice and Fire ran for 73 episodes over eight years, and can boast devoted fans the world over. Offered here is an original concept painting from the first season, rendered in oil and acrylic on 22" x 14.5" illustration board which bears the artist's initials and signature in the lower right. The image of Bran riding his Dire Wolf offers a fascinating look into the early stages of development on this character and the decision to "set this idea aside" is explained in the artist's signed notes on back of the piece. The art shows handling and edge wear. Condition is Very Good. COA from Heritage Auctions.
