Description
Star Trek: The Original Series (Paramount, 1966-1969), Group of Second Draft, Final Draft, and Shooting Revised Final Draft Scripts from Episode "Where No Man Has Gone Before" . Vintage original group of (3) studio-bound and bradded scripts detailing the evolution of the script for the third episode of the original series, "Where No Man Has Gone Before", including (1) 68-page (as paginated) Second Draft script with light blue studio-titled wraps dated June 16, 1965 in pencil on the internal cover page, on white with yellow-revision mimeograph pages containing paste-ups, hand-typed pages, and hand-written pencil notations by Gene Roddenberry throughout, with hand-written text reading, "Beige or Yellow Cover" on the front cover and a facsimile of an order form to print ten "lemon yellow" cover copies, (1) 63-page (as paginated) Final Draft script on mimeographed paper with red studio-titled wraps marked "FILE COPY / DO NOT TAKE" in black felt-tip on front wrap and stamped "32" on the upper righthand corner, and (1) 71-page (as paginated) Revised Final Draft Shooting Script on mimeographed paper with tan studio-titled wraps and stamped "93" on upper righthand corner with "RF" written beneath in pencil, with blue and pink revision pages, dated July 8, 1965. Filming of the episode occurred between July 19 and July 28, 1965 and premiered as the third episode of the first season on September 22, 1965. Notably, this script was originally written as the show's "second pilot", devised by Roddenberry to convince the network to greenlight the series after the original pilot, "The Cage", was rejected in February of that year. The script's title, which is the final phrase in the opening-credits voiceover, has become characteristic of the ethos of the show as a whole: "To boldly go where no man has gone before". Scripts exhibiting expected signs of handling and wear including some creases and scuffs to the studio wraps, bumped corners.
