Star Trek: The Original Series (Paramount, 1966-1969), Gene Roddenberry Final Story Outline and Revised Draft with Annotations from Original Pilot Episode "The Cage". Vintage original pair of early script materials relating to the original pilot episode written by Gene Roddenberry for his new series, including (1) 12-page (as paginated) Final Draft Story Outline, on mimeograph paper dated July 8, 1964, an incredibly early document of Roddenberry's initial plans for the pilot episode, and (1) 67-page (as paginated) Revised Draft dated November 20, 1964, bound and bradded in red studio-titled graphic wraps containing many hand-typed pages and paste-ups, with handwritten pencil annotations throughout including crossed out and rewritten title "MENAGERIE" on the front cover and with Captain's name Robert April crossed out and rewritten "JAMES WINTER" in pencil on the cast page. With additional approx. 40-page "Special Effects List" prepared for the episode on yellow revision papers with red pencil indicating "Rev. 11-9-64" on several pages. Filming on the pilot began a week after the draft was dated and was delivered to the network in February 1965 where it was rejected. The series was eventually picked up by the network based on a second attempted pilot, "Where No Man Has Gone Before". The original pilot of "The Cage" was reworked into "The Menagerie", a two-part episode released as Episodes 11 and 12 of the first season. Materials exhibiting signs of production-use and age including creasing to the studio wrap along the binding edge, minor bumped corners, and additional blemishes from handling.
