Robert Mitchum-Received Group of Funny Telegrams from Frank Sinatra (1980s-1990s). Thirteen total, all Western Union 'Mailgrams,' spanning the years from 1980 to 1997 (though a few years in between are missing), all sent to Mitchum's Montecito home from Sinatra's various business addresses either in Hollywood or Beverly Hills, all with virtually the same message: "Dear Bob / Happy Mother's Day. / Love, Francis" -- evidently a private and long-running joke between the two old friends; the last telegram is dated "05/09/97," just two months before Mitchum's death, and has the added message of "all the very best to you and your family;" also included is 1) a typed letter on Sinatra's personalized notepaper, dated "October 5, 1983," reading in part "Dear Mother are my friend, the fine decent / man I have been blessed to know and to love / over our long years together," secretarially signed; 2) a sympathy telegram from Sinatra to Dorothy Mitchum; 3) a thank you card from Barbara Sinatra to Dorothy Mitchum after Sinatra died; 4) a 1983 telegram to Mitchum from Janet Leigh; and 5) a 1983 letter to Mitchum from Laurence Olivier's secretary; consigned directly by Mitchum's children and included with a 'Letter of Provenance' signed by them.
