Description

Pair of Art Carney Contracts (ca. 1952). Vintage original pair of early contracts for Art Carney, including (1) 9- page draft of Carney's contract to appear on The Jackie Gleason Show (CBS TV, 1952-1957), in which Carney would perfect his most memorable role as Ralph Kramden's (Gleason) best friend, Ed Norton. Dated July 10, 1952 and stipulating a pay rate ranging from $750 to $1,000 per show along with other contractual terms, unsigned but including handwritten edits and notations including Gleason's initials "JG" to first leaf in black ink, along with (1) 2- page contract for Carney to appear on the popular Arthur Murray Party (ABC TV, 1950-1960) on February 3, 1952, for a "Sketch with Mrs. Murray and role in Jackie Gleason Sketch", as typewritten to first leaf, for an agreed rate of $600 per program, dated January 31, 1952 and signed and initialed by Carney to second leaf. Both items exhibiting delicate vintage condition, as expected with paper materials of this age, including 1- 1" tear to first leaf of Arthur Murray contract from prior folding, and 1- 3" tear to last page of Gleason contract as well as chipped edgewear and foxing throughout. Signatures and central details of either document unaffected. Comes with a full LOA from Beckett Authentication Services. From The Stewart Berkowitz Television Treasures Collection.
