Description

Marilyn Monroe's Personal Appointment Book. A 1961 "Daily Reminder" appointment book with "MM" written on the cover in black ink, owned and used by the blonde bombshell and containing handwritten notes in regards to her appointments, invitations, engagements, and other aspects of her personal and professional schedule. The notes are in the hand of Monroe's assistant and secretary, May Reis, in pencil, colored pencil, and ink throughout. The names of people close to Monroe in her personal and professional life are featured throughout, including Joe DiMaggio, Hedda Hopper, Louella Parsons, Lee Strasberg, Billy Wilder (on January 24, the day Arthur Miller divorced her), and show business associates such as Ernie Kovacs, Rod Serling, Richard Avedon, Harry Belafonte, and others. There is also March 10 entry regarding a dentist appointment written in Monroe's hand, and a notation regarding the January 31 premiere event for The Misfits. There is an absence of notes from February 9 to March 4, coinciding with her psychiatric hospitalization; and references in January and February to her psychiatrist, Marianne Kris. Pages for November 17 through December are missing. In Very Fine condition with the front board showing signs of separation. Previously auctioned by Julien's in 2005.
