Description

I Could Go on Singing (United Artists, 1963), Judy Garland "Jenny Bowman" Set of (2) Costume Sketches of Red Dress from "By Myself" Number by Edith Head. Pair of vintage original costume sketches accomplished in gouache and ink on 14" x 17" and 11" x 15" artist's paper by legendary costume designer Edith Head. First illustration depicts a figure, in typical Judy stance, wearing a red belted boatneck dress with sparkle pattern with various production notes, including "Garland" and "Jenny int. stage" with Edith's signature at the bottom right. The other sketch depicts a full-figure, in typical Judy stance holding a microphone, wearing a high-collar red dress with jacket. Includes production notes "double test curtain" and "add curtain swatch at top" with Edith's initials "EH" at bottom left. All outfits were created in California and shipped to England where the filming took place. Judy gained weight in the time between fittings and filming, so some costumes were altered while others were replaced. The on-screen boatneck red dress looks like the original design. The 11" x 15" leaf is perforated at top. Exhibiting age and production handling. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.
