Clark Gable's Marriage Certificate to his First Wife, Josephine Dillon. Gable was an unknown actor when he wed his acting teacher and patron, Josephine Dillon, in Los Angeles on December 13, 1924. The first of Gable's five marriages, it was an ill-fated union (see their divorce papers, also featured in this auction). This is the California State Board of Health "Standard Certificate of Marriage," with typed information regarding addresses, the minister, names of parents, etc., bearing the official State Seal of California. (Document does not have signatures.) Gable lists his age as 24 (he was actually 23); Josephine gives her age as 34 (she was 40). Attached is a flyer noting the certificate is "a full, true and correct copy" of the marriage certificate, dated February 19, 1929, signed by B. Moran, Deputy Registrar of Vital Statistics, and also bearing the California State Seal. Document measures 7" x 8.5". A fascinating piece of Gable memorabilia, in Excellent condition.
